SURROUNDJACKSON BROWNE NAMED ARTIST OF THE YEAR AT 2005 SURROUND MUSIC AWARDS
Honored for Promotion of the Format Through the Multichannnel Re-Issue of his Classic Running On Empty
NEW YORK, NY (November 28, 2005) - CMP Entertainment Media, Inc., producer of the Surround Music Awards (SMAs), has announced that Jackson Browne will be the recipient of the 2005 Surround Artist of the Year Award, which will be given at the 4th Annual Surround Music Awards, taking place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on December 15, 2005. The 2005 SMAs are presented by DTS.
Browne is being recognized for his work in promoting the emerging surround sound music format, in particular for his work on the multichannel re-issue of his classic album Running On Empty. The album was released this year by Rhino Records, and was mixed in surround by Greg Ladanyi.
Browne's career has spawned many hits, including "Running On Empty, "Doctor My Eyes," "The Pretender," "Somebody's Baby," "Tender is the Night," and "The Load-Out." Past Surround Artists of the Year have included Graham Nash, Led Zeppelin, and Beck.
"I believe that Jackson Browne and Greg Ladanyi have produced one of the best 5.1 mixes to date; and this is a release that will raise the bar in the surround world," says Robin Hurley, Sr. VP of A&R, Rhino Entertainment. "The original album was recorded in a variety of locations (including venues, tour buses, and hotel rooms), and this mix has used the 5.1 format to superb effect."
"Running On Empty is a seminal album, and its multichannel release has been long awaited by surround music enthusiasts," states Frank Wells, Surround 2005 Conference Chairman and Co-Producer of the Surround Music Awards. "Literally years in the making, the care taken as Jackson Browne guided this project to completion is sure to be appreciated by his audience. As a songwriter and performer, his body of work speaks for itself. With Running On Empty now in surround, this masterpiece can speak with a new voice, with an openness and clarity unachievable in two-channel stereo. For his devotion to his craft, and his exploration of surround, we are delighted to present this well-deserved award to Mr. Browne."
The Surround Music Awards honor the year's finest surround music productions, and are part of the Surround 2005 Conference and Showcase, which takes place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on December 15-16, 2005.

TOMLINSON HOLMAN TO KEYNOTE
SURROUND 2005 CONFERENCE
Father of 5.1 Delivers His Popular History of Surround Presentation with an Exclusive Look toward the Future
NEW YORK (November 17, 2005) — CMP Entertainment Media, Inc., the producer of the Surround 2005 Conference and Showcase, has announced that Tomlinson Holman will present a keynote presentation during Surround 2005, which takes place December 15-16 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
Holman has devoted his career to the advancement of audio technologies, and his name has become synonymous with surround sound. Holman was chief electrical engineer at Advent Corporation, founded Apt Corporation, maker of the Apt/Holman preamplifier, and was at Lucasfilm Ltd for 15 years, winding up as the company's Corporate Technical Director and where he developed the THX Sound System and its companions the Theater Alignment Program, Home THX, and the THX Digital Mastering program.
In addition to being the founding editor of Surround Professional magazine and the author of the books Sound for Film and Television and 5.1 Surround Sound: Up and Running, Holman is also professor of Film Sound at the University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television and a principal investigator in the Integrated Media Systems Center at the university.
"As surround changes in its various markets, the field remains fascinating, and one that has a lot of expressive range to offer that can't be done by other means," states Holman. "I am delighted to be asked to deliver the keynote for Surround 2005, which will trace the changes in the various areas, both in commercial and in artistic terms. I hope to use this as a platform for better cross-understanding amongst music, film, games, and other users of surround sound."
"There are few people as knowledgeable about surround sound as Tom Holman, and even fewer that communicate that knowledge so well," states Frank Wells, conference co-chairman for Surround 2005. "We acknowledged his contributions to the art and science of surround during last year's Surround Music Awards by giving him our Surround Trailblazer Award, and we are very pleased to have him back this year as a keynote speaker."
Holman's keynote address will encompass his History of Surround presentation, which has been favorite for attendees of past Surround Conferences. As an exclusive for those attending the Surround 2005 conferences, Holman will expand upon his talk and reveal his predictions for the future of surround sound.
Surround 2005 is the 7th Annual Conference and Showcase for the people who produce surround sound. It is being held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, and includes the 4th Annual Surround Music Awards, which take place on December 15th.
